Arizona Foundation for Medical Care Offers Arizona Businesses Healthcare Savings

Arizona Foundation for Medical Care (AFMC), Arizona’s largest statewide independent healthcare network, offers Arizona businesses healthcare savings that are significantly below other providers in the state. AFMC’s cost trends are well below its competitors’ average and the network continues to balance that savings with exceptional access and quality.

The price of healthcare is on the rise in Arizona, with an average cost increase for 2008 of 10 to 12 percent, according to 2008 Arizona Winter Health Plan Analysis by HealthLeaders InterStudy. AFMC, however, is well below the state average, reporting only a 7 percent average cost increase for its employer clients during the same time.

"Arizona business owners are going to continue to see price increases in healthcare,” said David V. Axene, FSA, MAAA, President of Axene Health Partners, LLC. “At only a 7 percent increase, Arizona Foundation for Medical Care’s ability to keep its costs well below the state average speaks to its dedication to providing accessible, quality care at a reasonable cost and marks it as one of the best options in this market.”

AFMC has effectively helped to control rising healthcare costs for its clients – a real benefit that none of the large national networks have been able to achieve. Demonstrating an ideal balance between quality, access and cost allows AFMC to provide exceptional service, including:

  • 99 percent of calls are answered within 30 seconds or less,
  • 24-hour turnaround on claims repricing,
  • 98 percent coverage across Arizona, and
  • 98 percent provider retention rate.

“AFMC works hard to ensure both businesses and employees are provided with the very best healthcare while managing the impact on our clients’ bottom lines,” said Dan Mitten, the senior director of operations of AFMC. “Expert industry knowledge, strong community ties and a network of the most highly qualified providers allow us to provide a level of service that is robust and, in some cases, far more well balanced when compared to most well-known PPO plans.”

AFMC continues to be a leader in the healthcare industry in Arizona by offering new and innovative services to its clients. In 2007, the network announced it had partnered with four other Western providers to form VentureNet, one of the largest regional PPOs in the nation, offering businesses coverage across eight states. By continuing to pave the way in Arizona with lower costs and new solutions for businesses, AFMC offers an innovative, high-quality plan unmatched in the state.
